Job Description:
WWF is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and highly qualified individual to join our team as a Senior Wildlife Officer specializing in Human Carnivore Conflict. This role is crucial for advancing our mission to protect natural habitats, stop the mass extinction of wildlife, and promote sustainable production and consumption practices.
Reporting To:
Wildlife and Protected Areas’ Manager
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the UCO Programme team to ensure effective operationalization of the project in line with organizational and donor requirements.
- Develop and implement activity work plans and budgets in accordance with WWF UCO project guidelines.
- Plan and facilitate training and capacity-building programs for targeted groups within the project area.
- Coordinate with CSOs and other community groups to deliver project activities.
- Ensure environmental and social safeguarding across the project in partnership with other offices.
- Prepare and submit technical and financial reports for the project.
- Represent the project at internal and external forums.
- Facilitate meetings and workshops, and strengthen relationships with project partners.
- Ensure compliance and support ongoing project assessments.
- Document best practices and lessons learned in accordance with the M&E framework.
- Support timely project reporting in line with WWF guidelines.
- Assist the communication team in organizing awareness events and preparing reports and communication materials on Human-Carnivore Conflicts.
- Engage with community partners on livelihood development initiatives.
- Collaborate with fundraising teams to secure continuous funding for wildlife conservation activities in Uganda.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Conservation Biology, Wildlife Management, Natural Resources Management, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification in wildlife management is an advantage.
- At least three years of experience in designing and implementing conservation projects, particularly those involving Human Carnivore Conflicts, community-based initiatives, or protected area management.
- Fluency and excellent writing skills in English.
- Proficiency in local languages (Rukiga-Runyankole) within the project area is essential.
- Strong public communication skills, both written and oral, with diverse audiences, especially local communities.
- Experience in organizational development work for CSOs and CBOs is an advantage.
- Proficiency in using GPS mobile data collection apps, especially SMART Tools and Earth Ranger, is a plus.
- Ability to confidently and credibly convey the work of WWF.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to coordinate complex projects, meet deadlines, and manage timelines under pressure.
- Experience working in the same landscape is advantageous.
