About Us: The Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) was established to assist the Secretary-General in fulfilling internal oversight responsibilities concerning the resources and staff of the United Nations. OIOS conducts independent inspections and evaluations to ensure accountability, efficiency, and effectiveness in the implementation of UN programs and procedures.
Job Summary: This internship position is within the Inspection and Evaluation Division (IED) of OIOS. As an intern, you will assist in conducting evaluations of UN peacekeeping operations, including data collection, analysis, and other tasks related to evidence synthesis. The internship offers practical experience in a multicultural and intergovernmental organization, under the supervision of OIOS-IED managers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in refining and piloting search protocols for screening databases.
- Extract, file, and organize relevant documents and literature.
- Review, map, and analyze evidence using computerized tools.
- Summarize trends, divergences, and evidence gaps.
- Visualize findings using various computerized tools.
- Take notes during meetings and data collection activities.
- Assist in other ad-hoc activities as needed.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or higher), or in the final academic year of a first university degree program.
- Studies in political science, economics, international affairs, security studies, public administration, gender studies, statistics, data science, human rights, or related fields.
- Computer literate in standard and advanced software applications, including Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with data analysis software such as PowerBI, NVivo, R, SPSS, Stata, and ethical Artificial Intelligence tools.
- Keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to its ideals.
- Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
