About EU:
The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 28 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy. The EU Delegation to Uganda is supporting Uganda’s priority needs which include the need to foster sustainable development by sound governance and macro-economic policies, improved connectivity of national and regional transport infrastructure and strengthening of agriculture.
Job Summary: Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Uganda? A traineeship of up to 6 months within the Political Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Uganda, starting in October, 2024.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research and analyse information;
- Contribute to the drafting of analytical reports on policies and current affairs;
- Support in the preparation of events organised by the Delegation;
- Participate in external meetings and events and report about them;
- Support the section in the preparation of visits, missions and meetings;
- Assist the Press Officer in the preparation of daily press reviews and visibility actions.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Taking into account the local health and security conditions, applicants currently residing in Uganda will only be considered.
- At least a Bachelor Diploma (or equivalent) in the field of political science, social science, journalism or economics;
- Very good command of spoken and written English;
- Highly motivated, willing to learn and able to work both in a multi-cultural team;
- Able to demonstrate strong sense of initiative, research, writing and analysis skills;
- Skilled in using Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
- Proven interest for EU affairs and international relations.
- Additional requirements that would be an asset:
- Completed or ongoing Master studies in international relations or related field;
- Knowledge of Uganda’s parliamentary affairs;
- Knowledge of Uganda’s institutional system and political landscape;
- Experience in analysis of economic and sociological data;
- Experience in working in a team and in coordinating inputs from various colleagues;
- Social media skills;
- Networking skills.
