About CSBAG:
• Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting equitable and accountable budgeting processes in Uganda.
• Our mission is to ensure that public resources are allocated efficiently, transparently, and in a manner that prioritizes the needs of marginalized communities.
• We work closely with government agencies, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to advocate for policies that foster inclusive development and social justice.
POSITION ONE: ECONOMIST
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Economic Analysis and Research:
o Conduct rigorous economic analysis and research on budgetary policies, fiscal trends, and socio-economic issues affecting the country with a focus on equity, efficiency, and social justice.
o Publish high-quality research papers, policy briefs, and reports on key economic issues, disseminating findings to policymakers, academia, civil society, and the media.
2. Fiscal Policy Development
• Provide strategic leadership and technical expertise in the formulation and evaluation of fiscal policies, tax reforms, and public expenditure programs aimed at promoting inclusive growth and poverty reduction.
• Analyze government budgets, revenue sources, and expenditure patterns to assess their impact on equity, social welfare, and sustainable development goals.
• Develop innovative policy recommendations and advocacy strategies to influence budgetary decisions and fiscal reforms at the national and regional levels.
3. Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing:
• Mentor and support a team of economists, researchers, and analysts, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
• Provide training and technical assistance to CSBAG staff, partner organizations, and government officials on economic analysis, budget advocacy, and public finance management.
• Engage in knowledge-sharing initiatives, including workshops, seminars, and conferences, to disseminate best practices and build the capacity of stakeholders in the field of economic policy.
4. Stakeholder Engagement:
• Engage with government officials, policymakers, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to promote dialogue on economic policy issues and advocate for budget transparency and accountability.
• Participate in meetings, workshops, and conferences to represent CSBAG and contribute expertise on economic matters.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree or higher in Economics, Public Policy, Development Studies, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in economic research, policy analysis, or budget advocacy.
• Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, including proficiency in econometric analysis and statistical software (e.g., Stata, R).
• Proven ability to conduct independent research and produce high-quality reports and policy briefs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex economic concepts to diverse audiences.
• Experience in engaging with government agencies, civil society organizations, and international stakeholders is desirable.
• Commitment to social justice, transparency, and accountability in public finance management.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to articulate complex economic concepts and policy recommendations to diverse audiences.
