FCA Uganda is now looking for competent persons to fill the following positions for the; TOGETHER consortium’s Education in Emergencies (EiE) project.
Job Summary: The Education Project Officer will be responsible for achieving the project outcomes through planning, implementing, and monitoring education projects in line with the design and donor requirements. Education activities shall cover primary and secondary schools and Accelerated Education Programme (AEP) centers within refugee settlements. S/he will work closely with various stakeholders in a manner that promotes ownership and sustainability and effective delivery of education services. The Officer will be responsible for capacity building of teaching staff and ensuring adherence to standards, guidelines, and policies to realize quality learning outcomes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day implementation of education projects in coordination with the consortium partners, ensuring activities are carried out efficiently and effectively.
- Develop and implement a realistic work plan in line with approved budget.
- Identify teacher-training needs and provide training and capacity-building support to teachers, school management structures, volunteers, and community structures/members involved in educational initiatives.
- Facilitate community meetings and workshops to engage refugees and host communities in the education projects that supports school enrolment, retention, and completion.
- Organize awareness campaigns, dialogues, and educational events to promote the value of education and encourage community participation.
- Adapt educational interventions to the local context of the refugee settlements, ensuring respect for diversity, inclusion, and protection principles.
- Work with the project team to review and develop tools for monitoring project outputs.
- Conduct regular field monitoring and tracking of project progress.
- Participates in project management meetings, including monthly budget performance meetings, and reflection forums.
- Prepare detailed activity reports and contribute to the preparation of project progress/final reports.
- Participate in conducting needs assessments within refugee settlements to identify education gaps and challenges.
- Collaborate with local and international NGOs, government agencies, and educational institutions to enhance resources allocations priority educational needs.
- Participate in regular education and other relevant sectoral meetings at settlement, district and national levels where necessary.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a University degree in Education or relevant field from a reputable University
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in Education administration and/or in classroom teaching working. NGO experience is an added advantage.
- Experience in implementing and monitoring formal and non-formal education projects,
- Proven experience in community mobilization and awareness-raising, especially in refugee context.
- Basic understanding of humanitarian approaches and standards, such as INEE minimum standards.
- Models child safeguarding standards and ensures others involved in the project do as well.
- Experience in networking and working with key stakeholders like OPM, local government, international actors, and UN agencies; and maintaining effective relationships with team, colleagues.
- Flexible and capable of working and living in difficult circumstances in a multicultural context.
- Willing to reside in project location and possession of a valid motorcycle license is an added advantage.
