Senior Policy Communications Associate Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA)

We are seeking a (Senior) Policy Communications Associate to join our Global Communications team. In this role, you will be responsible for translating technical research into easily understandable language for various audiences. Our research spans multiple countries and topics in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, providing a unique opportunity to collaborate with a diverse global team.

Your main tasks will involve creating a variety of communication materials, including summaries, briefs, presentations, data visualizations, and more, all aimed at conveying technical research to a non-technical audience. Our work encompasses various fields, such as Agriculture, Consumer Protection, Education, Entrepreneurship & Private Sector Development, Financial Inclusion, Health & Nutrition, Human Trafficking, Intimate Partner Violence, Peace & Recovery, and Social Protection. Additionally, you will contribute to crafting communication materials that showcase our organization and its impact.

Key Responsibilities:
• Analyze academic papers and technical reports, particularly impact evaluations conducted through rigorous research methods such as Randomized Control Trials (RCTs).
• Distill complex information into concise summaries, briefs, data visualizations, and clear presentations tailored for non-technical audiences.
Collaborate closely with research and policy staff across 20 country offices and 8 sector teams to provide strategic communication guidance, including identifying target audiences and communication objectives for crafting impactful communications materials.
Copy-edit documents to ensure clarity, strict adherence to established writing guidelines, and the presence of clearly defined target audiences and objectives.
• Maintain website content to reflect IPA’s latest research findings and developments.
• Contribute ideas and content for communication campaigns, including fundraising and social media initiatives.
• Develop communication materials that effectively showcase IPA’s work and impact, including presentations, documents, website content, and impact cases.

Qualifications:
Ideal candidates should possess a solid understanding of international development and econometrics, coupled with the ability to communicate effectively to a non-technical audience.
Proficiency in English is essential, and fluency in French is preferred as opportunities may arise to work on communications materials in French. Spanish proficiency is also advantageous as well as design skills are advantageous.
• An undergraduate degree in English, International Development, Economics, Public Policy, or related fields is required; a Master’s degree is advantageous.
• Strong written English skills, along with the ability to concisely simplify complex information, are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate excellent analytical skills for critically evaluating and synthesizing information from diverse sources.
• Ability to present information in a visually appealing manner through presentations and data visualization, among other materials.
• Design skills, including experience with design software like Canva and InDesign, are advantageous.
• Exceptional organizational abilities, including the capacity to work independently, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a diverse team environment, are essential.
