Job Summary:   This is a leadership position in the finance and accounting team responsible for financial reporting, planning and analysis, budgeting and internal controls. The role holder ensures that the organisation conforms to sound financial management standards, a robust internal control environment and leadership practices that support business financial health and sustainability.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Financial Statements preparation that are compliant with International Financial Reporting Standards and the applicable legal and regulatory requirements on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Lead, develop and manage team performance in contribution to achievement of departmental and overall company strategy.
  • Develop, enhance and implement sound accounting policies and procedures that ensure robust internal controls and adherence to overall company policies.
  • Manage the Internal and External Audits for the business ensuring timely and successful completion.
  • Analyze revenue and expenditure trends against the annual budgets providing management reports highlighting variances monthly to aid decision making.
  • Supervise and review ledger and bank reconciliations in the preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Manage the company cash flow ensuring optimal allocation of funds in line with the various competing priorities in operations and investments.
  • Collaborate with functional heads to develop the business annual budgets. Consolidate various functional budgets into the business budget ensuring alignment with the company strategy. Monitor and enforce budget adherence.
  • Drive 100% continuous statutory and legal compliance of the company by ensuring timely and accurate filing of returns to various regulatory authorities.
  • Drive integration agenda between the various operating systems and the financial reporting system. Continuous automation of departmental tasks to enhance controls and efficiency.
  • Safeguard assets in the company through supervision of the maintenance of fixed assets management register.
  • Implement and or ensure implementation of all audit recommendations touching of Finance and Accounting.
  • Budgeting Support to the departmental heads, compilation and monitoring of the budget.
  • Perform any other duties as allocated.

  • Strong work ethic and compliance with Accountant’s code of professional ethics.
  • Ensure productivity and performance is achieved and exceeded.
  • Expenditure in area of influence maintained within approved budget.
  • Correct and timely provision of financial information.
  • Absence of complaints from suppliers of goods and services.
  • Absence of penalties from statutory authorities.
  • Reconciliations and analyses of accounts accurately done and on a monthly basis.
  • Systems/Procedures within the section working properly.
  • Absence of issues from internal, external and statutory auditors.
  • Finance Function is well run and managed.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) or its equivalent degree.
  • Knowledge of and experience using IFRS17 is required
  • Qualified Accountant and registered member of a professional body
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a professional firm or financial related organization.
  • Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
  • Strong team player with excellent leadership skills.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Attentive to detail and analytical.
  • Excellent communications skills both oral and written.
