Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation -Uganda (Baylor-Uganda) is an indigenous not-for-profit child health and development organisation affiliated to the Baylor College of Medicine International Paediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI), a Network of paediatric HIV/AIDS care and treatment Children’s Clinical Centres of Excellence and international program offices in 11 countries across Africa and Eastern Europe.
Job Summary: The Public Relations, Communications and Advocacy Manager will promote and enhance the corporate image of Baylor-Uganda. To network and establish good working relationships with media, partners and the key stakeholders and advise the Executive Director on Public Relations and corporate communication strategy.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning and Strategy Development for communications, PR and Advocacy
- Develop communications, advocacy and public relations policies, strategies, and campaigns for Baylor Uganda.
- Develop consolidated work plans and budgets.
- Develop consolidated BSC to monitor the implementation of PR, communication and advocacy strategy across the organization.
Advocacy Management
- Represent Baylor Uganda at local, regional and international fora so as to engage the public about Baylor Uganda’s mandate in accordance with organization’s policies and guidelines.
- Monitor the organization’s progress in building and maintenance of public and private alliances and networks with partner organizations for concerted advocacy efforts.
- Monitor the implementation of procedures for fundraising/resource generation, mobilisation & granting in line with the Organisations mission and donor guidelines.
Media Relations Management
- Develop and monitor the implementation of a system to track local and international media reports in the Baylor-Uganda mandate’
- Monitor’ local and international media reports concerning pediatric/adolescent HIV/AIDS and other aspects in the Baylor-Uganda mandate’ and disseminate the findings for management action.
- Maintain good working relations with the media, including newspapers, magazines, social media platforms, radios, TV, to boost Baylor Uganda’s visibility through targeted promotional messages.
- Update the digital platforms and respond to media inquiries and requests for information at all times.
- Coordinate the flow of media activities in all areas concerning Baylor Uganda’s activities.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Plan and organize meetings and training programs between management and partners to allow cordial relationships.
- Plan, coordinate, organize and execute corporate networking and social events.
- Organize press conferences and events that provide information to the general public and key stakeholders in line with the various objectives and the departmental mandate.
Communication
- Collect and disseminate findings from media reports for management action and staff awareness in line with Baylor Uganda’s mission
- Develop information and education materials on HIV/AIDS and services offered by Baylor Uganda
- Oversee website content management, writing/editing for the web, graphic design and site management.
- Design and review the online content in media announcements and media kits.
Crisis Management
- Manage public relations crisis within Baylor Uganda operations.
- Constantly monitor the public and media opinion on the activities of Baylor Uganda and of Baylor Uganda as an organization.
- Promptly address the public or the concerned parties informatively as soon as a crisis is discovered to avoid destructive or harmful rumours.
- Maintain a two-way relationship with the public regularly.
Reporting
- Prepare and submit periodic reports on the PR performance of the organization as and when required.
- Report on the impact of promotional and education materials on HIV/AIDS and services offered by Baylor Uganda in the Baylor-Uganda in line with the various grant objectives.
People Management
- Supervise the team for effective implementation of the PR activities and compliance with the policy and guidelines.
- Lead all team building activities within the PR unit.
- Oversee the performance assessment of staff within the unit.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Master’s degree in Communication and Journalism or any other relevant masters
- A Degree in Mass Communication (Public Relations/Media Communication) or any related field
- A relevant postgraduate qualification in communication is an added advantage.
- At least six years of relevant working experience in PR and corporate communications
