Job Summary:
The Legal Officer will provide legal services to support business operations in accordance with the company’s policies, procedures and the law.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Employee’s duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to the following:
● Draft and review contracts entered into by the Company in its operations including but not limited to procurement of goods, services and engagement with partners.
● Provide legal advice/opinions and draft responses to notices of intention to sue the company from customers, employees and any other stakeholders.
● Review investigation reports, enquiries and internal audit findings and make recommendations for appropriate legal action to redress/safeguard the company.
● Support Management in monitoring and reporting compliance with Company policies and procedures and laws of Uganda.
● Conduct legal research and provide legal advice and guidance for proactive compliance of the Company with new legislation and best practices impacting the operating environment.
● Provide legal services to support business operations in accordance with company policies procedures and the law.
● Represent the company in courts of law and any other fora in liaison with the external lawyers.
● Liaising with external lawyers on company matters
● Draft and review agreements, legal documents and Memorandums of Understanding.
● Participate in recovery of written off and bad loans.
● Provide legal support to the company’s debt Recovery Strategy and follow-up police cases in liaison with collection and recovery officers
● Draft contract and service level agreements for company engagements
● Prepare and submit monthly reports to the supervisor
● Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications and specifications:
● Must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized University and a Diploma in Legal Practice from Law Development Centre.
● Should be an enrolled Advocate of the High court of Uganda.
● Must have a valid practicing certificate.
● A minimum of two years of working experience from a reputable financial institution and or law firm will be an added advantage
● Must possess excellent multi-tasking skills and the ability to function under pressure.
● Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
● Must have high levels of personal and professional integrity
