Job Summary: The Risk and Compliance Officer involves working with SRO and First Line Risk Owners to develop and maintain the risk management framework including its infrastructure and to conduct research on specific issues.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintaining the risk register and developing/managing an analytical framework for assessing the severity of Uganda Airlines’ risks / deriving its Risk Profile.
- Providing technical and administrative support for scenario modeling exercises in relation to major risks and populating/maintaining a consistent dashboard that reflects the output from these exercises.
- Develop and compile any metrics to be used for risk management and socialize them with businesses and management. Maintain risk databases and methodology documents.
- Write risk policies as directed and provide supporting documentation to risk committees to secure their approval.
- Develop and maintain processes for monitoring developments in Uganda Airlines, the airline and transport industries, and the global environment and assessing their impact on Uganda Airlines’ risk profile. Define and conduct a process for having new risks or changes in existing risks captured in Uganda Airlines’s taxonomy
- Prepare papers and supporting materials for Executive Committee and Board Audit, Risk and Compliance Committees and ensure action items and requests from committee members followed up.
- Conduct ‘deep dive’ research into specific risks, working with internal or external specialists, to provide briefings for risk committees and wider management. This research should be both relevant and thought-provoking and should contain firm recommendations.
- Build a network of informal contacts across the organization but with Safety and Audit departments, such as to be able to both gather intelligence and exercise ‘soft’ influence.
- Work with Manager Risk and compliance to promote a positive risk culture within the Company, seeking to provide the materials and the environment for open discussion and debate
- Develop a reputation as a risk management expert to monitor, benchmark, and recommend best practices in large corporations in general and the airline industry.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Uganda Airlines job must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
- At least three years of experience working in risk management, compliance, or internal audit at a major listed corporation or in the risk area of a global consultancy and/or Strong communication skills, both on paper and in person, able to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders and to build strong relationships.
- Analytical mindset with an enthusiasm for learning new things, researching issues, and developing new insights on established and emerging issues. Numeracy and logic will be important attributes to support effectiveness.
- Presentation skills, the ability to write concise reports, organize materials, and prepare PowerPoint presentations all very desirable.
- Curious disposition, inclined to question and challenge and to seek understanding of issues while always maintaining the respect of stakeholders.
- Very ‘customer-oriented’, keen to work in partnership with Business Units to seek positive outcomes.
- Excellent Excel & PowerPoint skills
