Information Technology Manager Building Tomorrow (BT)

Building Tomorrow (BT), an international social-profit organization equipping communities to support universal access to inclusive, quality education in sub-Saharan Africa, is seeking an IT Manager in their Uganda Country Office in Kampala. The IT Manager will be supervised by the Director of Operations. The IT Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the organization’s information technology infrastructure, compliance with national and international data protection standards, and ensuring the efficient and effective use of technology resources to support the BT mission. This role involves planning, implementing, and maintaining IT systems, managing technology projects, and providing technical support to staff and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:
IT Strategy and Planning:
• Develop and implement BT-Uganda information technology strategy in alignment with its mission and goals.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to identify and prioritize technology needs and initiatives.
• Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure best practices and compliance.

Infrastructure Management:
• Oversee the maintenance and management of the organization’s IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, hardware, and software systems.
• Ensure the security and integrity of IT systems and data through regular backups, updates, and security protocols.
• Establish and ensure compliance with an organizational data protection policy in accordance with relevant data privacy regulations. You will serve as the Data protection and privacy contact person for the organization.

Technical Support:
• Provide technical support to staff, fellows, and users, addressing hardware and software issues promptly and effectively.
• Implement and enforce data management policies and procedures, including data privacy and security practices.
• Develop and deliver technology training to staff as needed.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and optimization of technology resources

Budget and Resource Management:
• Develop and manage the IT budget, tracking expenditures and ensuring cost-effectiveness.
• 5.Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:
• Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans to safeguard IT systems and data.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in the non-profit sector to recommend and implement innovative solutions.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• At least 3-5 years of working experience of leading and managing IT teams.
• A Master’s degree preferably in Information, Computer Science ,or a related field will be an added advantage.
• Proven experience in IT management, preferably in a non-profit or similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of IT systems, hardware, software,and network administration.
• Experience with database management (SalesForce preferred), data collection methods and tools, Microsoft Office Excel, and providing training and support for new and existing technology.

Additional Skills and Competencies
• Project management skills and experience with project management methodologies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and external partners.
• Certifications (e.g., CompTIA, ITIL, PMP) are a plus.
