RELON is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering refugee-led organizations (RLOs) and strengthening their advocacy efforts in Uganda. We work towards building sustainable and effective networks that amplify the voices of refugees and advocate for their rights. Through capacity-building initiatives, training programs, and advocacy campaigns, RELON aims to foster collaboration and empower RLOS to lead positive change within their communities.

Job description:
As a Communication Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting the implementation of the “Strengthening refugee-led advocacy through capacity-building of RLOS in Uganda (STRAC of RLOS U)” project. You will work closely with the project team to develop and execute the communication strategy for STRAC of RLOS U, ensuring effective communication and engagement with key stakeholders, including refugees, partner organizations, and donors.

Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement the communication strategy for STRAC of RLOS – U, in line with project objectives and RELON’s vision.
• Create compelling and impactful communication materials, including news articles, press releases, case studies, social media content, and newsletters.
• Lead on delivering agreed communication objectives, including managing social media platforms, website content, and ensuring regular updates.
• Liaise with project team members and RLOS to gather and share stories, testimonials, and success stories that highlight the impact of their advocacy work.
• Support the planning and organization of events, workshops, and conferences, both virtually and in-person, to enhance the visibility and networking opportunities for RLOS. Collaborate with external partners, media outlets, and relevant stakeholders to maximize the reach and impact of STRAC of RLOS-U’s advocacy efforts.
• Monitor, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies, making recommendations for improvements as necessary.
• In collaboration with the program coordinator, and with support of the advocacy officer through the leadership of the chief executive director andteam leader, the communication officer will support RELON Uganda’s Project “Strengthening refugee-led advocacy. through capacity-building of refugee-led organizations in Uganda (STRAC of RLOS – U)” through coordination and advocacy – capacity-support and training activities Work closely with the advocacy officer to collect and document project stories for sharing learning and advocacy.
• Document capacity strengthening initiatives, advocacy-related events and skills-building workshops led by RELON Uganda, NGO partners, and Refugee led organizations/groups.

Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field. Relevant professional certifications or additional training is a plus.
• Proven experience (at least 3 years) in a similar role, preferably within the non-profit sector or humanitarian field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to adapt communication style for different audiences.
• Strong storytelling abilities, with the capacity to convey complex messages in a compelling and accessible manner.
• Proficient in using social media platforms, content management systems, and design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and diverse environment, with an understanding of the challenges faced by displaced communities.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated commitment to gender equality and the inclusion of marginalized voices, with a particular focus on supporting female candidates with displacement backgrounds.
