Job Summary:   The Finance Manager – Group and Financial Reporting will be responsible for preparation of accurate and timely financial information to Group and external stakeholders. To be a trusted technical expert with respect to International Financial reporting Standards (IFRS) and Group Finance Policies, ensuring that accounting treatments are in compliance with IFRS and regulatory accounting guidelines.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Group and Statutory Financial Reporting

  • Responsible for integrity of the general ledger and maintaining proper accounting records for the bank
  • Responsible for the chart of accounts and correct account mappings between accounting systems in the bank
  • Responsible for ensuring accurate financial period end close and reporting to Group and country management.
  • Ensuring month-end reconciliations are done in accordance with the principles of completeness, acc
  • Responsible for preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of raw data into and out of accounting systems to finalise the base financial information i.e. ‘one version of the truth’. This output is primarily used to produce the reports for Management Accounts
  • Responsible for the half year & full year statutory reporting, including newspaper publications
  • Point of contact for the external auditors, ensuring annual statutory audits are completed on time
  • Keep abreast with accounting developments, ensure compliance with IFRS/Group Accounting policies, regulatory guidelines and procedures in Group, Statutory and Regulatory reporting
  • Ensure all queries from Group are addressed on a timely basis
  • Become a centre of excellence for the business, providing technical advice to the business on complex accounting matters
  • Support regulatory reporting to the Bank of Uganda – Review and approve the completed schedules before they are submitted.
  • Actively develop a culture of continuous improvement. Review processes procedures and requirements, on a regular basis, identify areas for improvement

Stakeholder Management

  • Ensure effective and excellent communication and working relationships with colleagues in the department and the bank in general
  • Attend meetings with Senior managers and other staff in the bank
  • Manage queries from external stakeholders that relate to financial reporting

Risk Management control and Compliance

  • Understand the appropriate policies & standards applicable to role.
  • Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) which are faced in the role thereby contributing to the adherence to the Group Risk and Control Framework.
  • Ensure that practices and controls required by policies are communicated to all relevant colleagues
  • Ensure that independent oversight, on a proactive basis takes place of the risk performance (including related control effectiveness) principal risks.
  • Maintaining procedures to monitor compliance with policies and any controls required by them

Team Leadership/Management

  • Provide leadership, line management & coaching to both the finance team
  • Manage the provision of training and support to other areas of the bank to ensure they have sufficient knowledge regarding account ownership and reconciliation
  • Proactive engage members of the bank’s senior leadership team committed to achieving success and providing support for colleagues.
  • Pursue your own personal development to increase job effectiveness

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

The applicant for the ABSA Bank job must hold a Bachelor’s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas: Financial Sciences (Required)
