General Manager Cellulant

As the head of the Uganda market, you have strategic and commercial oversight over the in-country operations. You will provide leadership and management oversight to the account management & sales teams; develop and maintain core customer relationships. You will lead and influence core bank and merchant customers to position Cellulant as the leading payment service provider and partner in the country. You will guide Cellulant Uganda to be the leading Payment service provider in the country expected to deliver 100% YoY growth for the payments business.

You will have direct and indirect reports across the different functions of the business.

Key Relationships:
All Executive Committee, Product team, Technology team, Treasury & Financial Operations, Controllership, Marketing & Legal Team.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Commercial Vision & Strategy Development:
• Responsible for defining the commercial strategy in our Uganda market.
• Define and implement Go-to-Market strategy.

Talent Acquisition:
• Build an effective team to drive partnerships, business development and sales in our markets.

Relationship & Partnership Development:
• Responsible for Identifying key partnerships & customers necessary to drive growth.

Commercial Growth:
• Deliver consistent business and market share growth.
• Creating new business segments and footprints in the regions to increase revenue.

Product-Market Fit:
• Work closely with the product team to identify gaps in the market and propose products based on market needs while obtaining feedback from customers.
• Lead, Build & Manage the Commercial team (inclusive of business continuity planning and

knowledge management):
• Provide direction to the in-country sales team and guide their work contributions.
• Plan resource & skills demands including insourcing/outsourcing planning ensuring business continuity is kept top of mind and considered as part of demand planning.
Plan, develop, stand up, support, and promote collaborative tools and techniques such as communities of practice to facilitate sharing of ideas and work among internal teams and external partners.
• Promote knowledge capture and reuse through operational and business processes.
• Support and promote knowledge transfer sessions within the team and across various business verticals.
• Actively develop performance and skills of the various team members; participate in career and skills development discussions and support talent development efforts as appropriate.
Actively support the various talent processes with a view to identify and retain high and top performing colleagues.
• Identify team strengths, skills and knowledge and ensure appropriate and optimal utilization of talent.

HR & Admin:
• Global policies defined on key areas at a group level and implemented in-country (country nuances requiring deviation from global policies agreed between country & group and added as addendums to policies)

Regulatory:
• Work closely with the different regulators governing operations in the market.

Finance & Treasury:
• In conjunction with the finance & treasury team, track all finance-related KPIs; revenue, gross profit, EBITDA, receivables, payables, reconciliations and settlements.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Must have experience:
• Fintech/payments background. Candidates with experience as an executive committee member in PSP & TELCO industries are highly recommended.
• Experience in leading a team of enterprise salespeople.
• Deep understanding of the payments ecosystem.
• B2B sales experience / Large account management experience.
• Payments solutions sales / technical/complex product sales experience.
• Experience commercial scaling a country or a product within a short period of time.
• Cross-border remittances background & enterprise sales experience is critical.

Experience that will count in your favour:
• Strong product P&l leader.
• Close working with C-suite

Nice to have experience:
• Experience within the finance function i.e. a varied career path with time spent in the finance function will contribute significantly to the understanding and being successful within this particular role.
• Sales and business development experience within SaaS context.
• An understanding of Agile and Safe methodologies and how this drives and impacts working relationships and delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• University Degree holder (BCom, Marketing, or any relevant business degree), MBA is an added advantage.
• 10 years of work total experience.
• 5+ years’ experience in the payments, telecom or banking sector.
• 4+ years’ experience in a technology company.
• 4+ years’ sales management experience, with account management leadership.
• Experience in the mobile payments sector is a distinct advantage.
• Experience in business operations is an added advantage.
• Experience in performance marketing is an added advantage

• Possesses significant functional and industry experience and expertise; expected to be subject matter expert in multiple specific skill sets, business areas or products.
• Great negotiator
• A seasoned leader with extensive industry knowledge and functional expertise within functional discipline including setting strategic direction in focussed areas of products, services and/or functions.
• Ability to drive revenue through commercialization efforts.
• Ability to operate across all disciplines managing multiple deliverables against deadlines.
• Leadership skills, with experience of motivating, managing, and developing individuals and teams.
• Ability to communicate simply and clearly
