• The Plan International Uganda is currently implementing a new 5-year Country Strategy FY23-27 whose goal is to ensure that “Children and young people especially girls reach their full potential through communities that promote their rights and gender equality.” One of the functions supporting the delivery of the above goal is the Influencing and Communications department whose activities are guided by the Influencing strategy.
• Plan International Uganda’s Influencing Strategy is guided by the Global Strategy (All Girls Standing Strong), Global Advocacy Strategy (GLAS), the Pan African Advocacy Strategy (PAAS), and PIU Country Strategy. The strategy employs several integrated influencing approaches including targeted policy advocacy, strategic communications and campaigns, and partnership –
• Strategic communication to support the influencing agenda
• Plan International Uganda communication approach is designed to facilitate effective and strategic internal and external communications. This approach is deliberately designed to meet the ambitions of the both the global strategy: All girls standing strong and the Uganda Country Strategy (2023-2027).
a. Purpose of assignment
Given the above background and the scope of the related work, the department is seeking for a graduate intern to support the delivery of the influencing agenda effectively.
(b) Main duties and responsibilities of the intern
• Working with program teams to document impact stories for further sharing and profiling the organization’s work to effectively draw lessons, support resource mobilization and in line with the influencing agenda
• Compiling quarterly newsletters and bi-monthly bulletins
• Designing and coordinating the production of IEC materials (such as, t-shirts, banners, documentaries, photos, posters, fliers and brochures) by working closely with service providers and the procurement team.
• Working with the team in planning and organizing internal and public events as well as outreach meetings in line with the Plan International Uganda strategic priorities.
• Participation in promoting Plan International Uganda’s visibility on existing organizational platforms (such as Planet and Media Bank,) and approved social media sites
• Support donor visits to enhance resource mobilization efforts
• Content development and execution of campaigns
Key deliverables
• Number of impact stories documented (along with photos and video clips) and shared per quarter (at least 1 impact story per Country program every quarter including Disaster Risk Management)
• Number of quarterly newsletter and bi-monthly bulletins compiled (1 quarterly newsletter, 2 bi-monthlies compiled)
• Number of public events coordinated and meetings (depending on Plan International calendar and project events)
• Number of social media posts achieved per quarter (at least 3 program/event related posts every week)
• #Number of donor visits supported
Educational Requirements and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Journalism or a related field from a recognized university or institution.
• Must have acquired at least a Second-Class upper degree
• Should have graduated university between 2021 and 2023
Skills and Professional Competences Required
• Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills
• Capable to taking professional photography
• Excellent videography including editing
• Professional graphic designing in Illustrator, Indesign, photoshop or Canva
• Knowledgeable and able to execute social media marketing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn
• Excellent writing skills for internal and external audiences
• Ability to work with media
• Excellent public relations
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds

Period of hiring and Budget
The volunteer will be hired for a period of 10 months.
