Job Summary: The Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning Assistant (MEAL Assistant) will be responsible for capturing reliable and up to date patient data, cleaning data and preparing basic reports to inform decision making at the health facility level.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitoring & Evaluation
- Assist medical staff by capturing patient information in paper files and enter data in HIS/HMIS electronic and manual registers on a daily basis
- Perform basic data analysis and make presentations to health facility staff on recent performance trends, organise CMEs with health facility staff to analyse and interpret medical data
- Generate weekly and month data reports in accordance with reporting standards
- Mentor health facility staff in data management best practices
- Responsible for cleaning data in the database to ensure quality, up to date and reliable information
- Enter MTI program outputs into the various national and donor reporting platforms DHIS2, HIS,
- Ensure adequate stock of registers and reporting tools available in store and at health facilities
- Compile data for the preparation and dissemination of progress reports and donor reports
- Mentor health facility staff in data management best practices
- Perform basic data analysis and make presentations to health facility staff on recent performance trends, organise CMEs with health facility staff to analyse and interpret medical data
Accountability
- Assist the MEAL Officer in conducting assessments to measure quality of service provision
- Ensure that data tools are safely stored and safeguard confidentiality of patients data in line with acceptable data protection guidelines
- Work with Public Health Assistants to document accountability mechanisms, community listening sessions, community dialogues and other feedback mechanisms
Learning
- Take lead in facility learning and reflection meetings while ensuring that such action points are followed up during program implementation
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Social Sciences, Information Technology or related field
- One year of experience in managing health data in a MoH or NGO setting
- Experience working in a health setting and with HIS/HMIS is an added advantage
- Experience working with international NGOs is an added advantage
- Basic knowledge of data management best practices
- Basic knowledge of health data analysis
- Skilled in using HIS/HMIS databases and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Skilled in generating basic reports and basic data visualisation
- Skilled in training and capacity building
- Analytical with strong attention to detail
- Ability to act with integrity and maintain the highest ethical standards
- Ability to support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct
