Social Enterprise Consultant Nurture Africa

Purpose of the assignment
Nurture Africa is looking for a consultant to provide support in the development of a business plan, using an understanding of Nurture Africa’s core operations, competitive advantages, and goals to provide direction on how to structure, and run the Social enterprises. The ideal candidate should have some experience in running or advising early stage businesses with the analytical abilities to provide a roadmap to growth.
Scope of work

The consultant is expected to

• Conduct research and analysis with the aim of understanding the existing business including:-
v staffing levels
v systems in place (storage, controls, finance, HR, customer service, marketing)
v products/services
v customers
v competitors
v overall market and trends

• Conduct interviews with staff and stakeholders to understand how they are thinking about near-term growth, generally and in reference to specific growth initiatives.
• Build a detailed business plan including a financial analysis showing all of the assumptions, drivers, and financial statements for the next 3 – 5 years, accounting for a conservative, base, and aggressive case
• Conduct a total addressable market analysis for the business’ core market, assess major industry trends affecting the business, and describe what impact these trends may have on the business
• Map out direct and indirect competitors, including potential future competitors, for existing and potential revenue channels
• Develop a comprehensive market strategy
• Review compensation plans and organizational structure to align incentives and ensure the health of the organization in the long-run

Expected deliverables
• Kick-off Meeting and final inception report submitted
• Draft Business Plan including all elements listed under the scope of this ToRs
• Final presentation of Final Business Plan with all comments incorporated including operational plan, Financial Plan, marketing plan, Budget scenarios, and any other task listed in this assignment).

Skills and Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification in business management, finance, operations, research, statistics, business mathematics, economics, or related analytical discipline preferred.
• Financial management experience with planning, forecasting, and business analysis
• Advanced Excel proficiency. 3+ years of practical experience of using Excel for building and maintaining financial models
• At least 10 years’ experience within the food and beverage industry in Uganda
• Experience is bringing at least one business from a start up to a mature company
• Experience conducting market research, including analyzing and synthesizing research reports and conducting primary research
• An understanding of marketing channels and go-to-market strategies
• Excellent spoken and written communication; comfort reaching out to and interviewing the management, employees, and customer base

Duration of the assignment
Business plan development is to be conducted over a maximum of 25 working days. The final deliverables should be presented within 50 days upon being awarded the contract.
