Job Summary:  The Community-based Business Development and Support Assistance will be responsible for community-level youth mobilization, providing support and guidance to young individuals in developing their entrepreneurial, vocational, and interpersonal skills for a dignified and fulfilling job/employment opportunities. She/he will engage with the community, identify training needs, and create opportunities for young people to acquire relevant skills and enhance their employability.  She/he will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of the project activities by working closely with beneficiaries on a day-to-day basis. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, community engagement experience, and a commitment to empowering youth.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage with the local community and maintain strong relationships with refugee and host communities including youth, parents, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders to identify skill gaps and training needs.
  • Collaborate with other project staff and partners to develop detailed skill development plans that align with the needs and aspirations of the youth, and market demand in the West Nile Region.
  • Conduct regular outreach activities, and closely work with stakeholders to identify and mobilize potential beneficiaries for the skilling and employment project.
  • Plan and organize skill training workshops, vocational training sessions, and other educational activities in coordination with project staff, stakeholders, and local technical and vocation training institutions.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to youth participants, offering support in setting goals, career planning, and personal development.
  • Organize community meetings and awareness sessions to promote the project’s objectives and opportunities.
  • Provide personalized guidance and mentorship to youth beneficiaries, helping them identify their skills, interests, and entrepreneurial aspirations.
  • Assist beneficiaries in developing business plans, market research, and feasibility studies for their proposed ventures.
  • Facilitate access to financial services, microcredit, and business development resources for beneficiary youth.
  • Assist in identifying market opportunities and potential business partnerships for youth entrepreneurs.
  • Help beneficiaries in developing strategies for market penetration, product/service branding, and customer acquisition.
  • Collect and maintain accurate records of beneficiary profiles, progress, and achievements.
  • Monitor the progress and performance of the youth participants, providing feedback and assistance as needed to ensure their successful completion of the program.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor the implementation of business plans and provide feedback to beneficiaries.
  • Prepare reports on project activities, including success stories, document achievements, challenges, and lessons learned for project management and stakeholders.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in social work, community development, education, or a related field.
  • Three years of proven experience in community engagement, youth development, or related fields.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including youth, community leaders, and employers.
  • Knowledge of the West Nile Region and its social, cultural, and economic context is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the West Nile Region and its social, cultural, and economic context is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the West Nile Region, such as Lugbara, Alur, or Madi, is an asset.
  • Familiarity with work in refugee settlements, and refugee host-communities is an added advantage.
  • Basic Computer skill is required.
