About Project:
According to its Vision 2040, Uganda wants to develop into a middle-income country in the coming years. To achieve this, the country needs to overcome several challenges that are hampering its socio-economic development. The “Strengthening Governance and Civil Society in Uganda” programme aims at supporting relevant state and non-state actors to better fulfil their roles regarding accountability, principles of good governance and human rights. The “Civil Society in Uganda Support Programme” which is co-funded by the EU is part of the Governance programme and strengthens the capacity of civil society in Uganda and focuses on three intervention areas: 1) promoting regulatory and operational frameworks for civil society organizations, 2) strengthening the meaningful and structured participation of civil society in inclusive subnational/ national policy development processes, and 3) improving the responsiveness, sustainability, and resilience of civil society organizations. The programme pays particular attention to the human rights-based approach (including gender, youth and inclusion of persons with disabilities) as well as digitalization.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strengthening the thematic and methodological expertise of civil society organizations with a focus on gender inclusive governance, participatory processes and leaving no one behind
- Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations in areas such as accountability, management/leadership skills, cooperation, and networking through tailored interventions at organizational and individual level and considering different needs and priorities
- Supporting civil society organizations in the effective use of participatory processes/methods including digital formats
- Supporting civil society organizations in gathering evidence-based advocacy on the implementation of the National Development Plan, as well as a human rights-based approach to the Parish Development Model
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Master’s degree in social or political sciences or another relevant field
- First professional experience in organizational development and working with civil society organizations
- Proven advisory skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural setting
- Practical working experience in developing countries, experience in Sub-Saharan Africa is an asset
- Working proficiency in English
