As a Nurse at MISIUNEA SPERANTA FOR UGANDA, you will make a key contribution to its mission by ensuring the health and medical needs of the children under Hope mission orphanage home. In this position you will provide children and staff of hope mission with education, resources and advocacy to ensure a healthy medical status under our program. As a nurse, you will develop trusting partnerships with patients and create an evidence-based, medical plan for each client. You must embody the core values of integrity, respect, understanding, teamwork, and excellence. Your skills will ensure the team prioritizes the stewardship of hope mission resources, the health and safety of all children as well as its staffs
Duties And Responsibilities
• Promote patient’s independence by establishing patient care goals, teaching patients to understand the condition, medications, and self-care skills.
Make recommendations for referrals to ensure the safety, health and well-being of children and staff
• Adhere to all safety precautions and procedures for medication administration and storage procedures as well as controlled substance regulations.
• Respect confidentiality and follow ethical guidelines/standards
• Maintain nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies, using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
Administer direct nursing care to injured, disabled, ill, or convalescent patients.
• Review and maintain medical records.
• Physically escort sick children to get diagnostic tests or investigations.
• Educate patients about their medical conditions, test results and treatment plans.
• Screen children for malnutrition and other health related conditions
• Maintain a safe, hygienic working environment.
• Prepare rooms and medical equipment and decontaminate instruments.
• Provide emotional and psychological support to patients.
• Perform any other duty as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• The applicant for this position should hold at least a Certificate in nursing.
• Must be a registered practitioner with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
• At least two years’ experience in Nursing practice.
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
• Should be a highly motivated person and should be able to work under a high workload;
• Ability to work in a team but also work independently.
• Ability to speak local language
• Flexibility to work long hours which may occasionally extend beyond normal working hours in order to complete critical tasks.
• Fluent in oral and written English
