JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for development and implementation of procedures for maintaining system integrity, schedule the operation, configuration of the network and plan and design projects for interconnection to the generation, transmission and distribution network in line with grid code requirement.
KEY RESULT AREAS
• Prepare the short, medium & long-term development plans for the transmission network.
• Prepare electrical designs, bills of quantities, cost-benefit analysis and tender documentation/specifications for the design of new transmission lines and substations as well as for upgrades, changes on the existing grid and renovation works in accordance with engineering standards and procurement guidelines.
• Review design calculations, specifications, drawings of transmission line and substations in liaison with end-user departments.
• Identify optimal substation sites and line routes and provide technical support in the acquisition of right-of-way.
• Inspect, identify and correct discrepancies between electrical As Built drawings and actual installations for all works done by contractors.
• Carry out transmission project specific system studies (load flow, fault analysis, dynamic studies, and contingency analysis) to determine the conceptual design of the proposed infrastructure.
• Participate in the supervision of feasibility studies according to the pre-set Terms of Reference and prepare monthly project and studies progress report to the Senior Planning Engineer.
• Provide technical guidance and training in the field of transmission line and substation design.
• Conduct other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
THE PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
The desired person should have the following essential requirements.
• A bachelors’ degree with honours in electrical engineering from a recognized institution.
• At least 3 years’ experience in power systems planning in a dynamic environment.
• Experience in power plants (generators operation and maintenance) preferably hands on experience in overhauls and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge and understanding of AutoCAD is preferable.
• Very good communication and presentation skills.
• A person of integrity, highly motivated, innovative, proactive and committed team player.
