JOB SUMMARY
To provide technical support to the Senior Civil Engineer on providing quality civil and structural engineering services to the Company at the UETCL Lugogo office Block.
KEY RESULT AREAS
• Supervises and inspects minor/emergency construction and maintenance Civil Engineering/Structural projects (Buildings, Foundations, Access roads, Towers, bridges) in accordance to Engineering Standards and Company Objectives.
• Assist the Senior Civil Engineer to carry out contracts management during implementation of major construction and maintenance Civil Engineering/Structural projects
• Makes measurements, obtains data for computation of quantities and participate in obtaining design data and preparation of bill of quantity;
• Liaise with technician and develop annual work program and ensure implementation of activities for the construction and maintenance of access roads, bridges and tower repairs as per the UETCL specifications/standards
• Inspects construction materials to see that they conform to specifications;
• Assess the magnitude and determine the annual resources requirements for the construction and maintenance of access roads, bridges and tower repairs and ensure they are used as planned
• Participates in making surveys for determining payments to contractors;
• Prepares progress reports;
• Serves as site inspector on contracted and sub-contracted work; ➢ Computes and checks estimates;
• Assists in the preparation of contract documents, specifications, and plans for bidding.
• May supervise the work of technical and/or clerical assistants;
• Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as computer Aided Design programs (CAD), spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail, performing work assignments.
• Conduct other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
THE PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
The desired person should have the following essential requirements.
• A bachelors’ degree with honours in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from a recognised institution.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in roads, bridges, building and power line construction works.
• Must demonstrate experience and training in civil engineering design, procurement, and implementation of related projects.
• Must demonstrate experience in foundation design for substation and transmission towers
• Must be registered with ERB.
• Experience dealing with stakeholders including clients, transport specialists and members of the public.
• Problem solver and excellent analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to liaise and coordinate with others.
• Willingness to travel within Uganda.

The holder of this position will be offered a contract subject to the Ministry of Public Service Guidelines on the rationalization Exercise of Government Institutions.
