Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation -Uganda (Baylor-Uganda) is an indigenous not-for-profit child health and development organisation affiliated to the Baylor College of Medicine International Paediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI), a Network of paediatric HIV/AIDS care and treatment Children’s Clinical Centres of Excellence and international program offices in 11 countries across Africa and Eastern Europe.

 

Job Summary:  The Ebola Survivor’s Clinic Nurse is a frontline medical worker, responsible for delivering hands-on patient care in the Ebola Survivor’s Clinic and various settings, including other hospitals departments, patient’s homes and communities. She/he provides a wide range of patient services, including preventative and primary care, educating patients about disease prevention, risk reduction, operating medical equipment, counselling patients and administering medications. They will work as part of a team but may also work independently, providing general consultations and performing the important task of educating patients about treatments, health promotion, risk reduction and preventative care.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Triage patients by conducting physical exams to assess patient health needs and problems.
  • Implement physicians’ orders, perform treatments, start IVs, fill prescriptions, and assist navigate patients through the health facility.
  • Administer direct nursing care to injured, disabled, ill, or convalescent patients.
  • Review and maintain medical records.
  • Counsel patients and family members on disease prevention, risk reduction and health maintenance.
  • Physically escort and assist patients get diagnostic tests or investigations.
  • Educate patients about their medical conditions, test results and treatment plans.
  • Maintain a safe, hygienic working environment.
  • Prepare rooms and medical equipment and decontaminate instruments.
  • Provide emotional and psychological support to patients.
  • Perform any other duty as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must be Registered Nurse (RN) with a Diploma in Nursing.
  • Training in IPC is an added advantage.
  • Three years of experience in a busy health care setting.
  • Experience managing patients with highly infectious diseases or Ebola response is an added advantage.
  • Full registration with the Uganda Nurse’s Midwives Council and possession of a valid Practicing License.
