Job summary: To provide quality nursing care and support to ophthalmology clients throughout their surgical experience including pre, intra and postoperative care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensure instruments for procedures are available and sterile.
• Scrubbing and assisting in various Ophthalmic procedures
• Administering local anaesthesia, keeping it in safe custody, and documenting in the patient casebooks.
• Assisting with procedures such as tests for glaucoma, cataracts, retinal scans etc.
• Preparing patients for examinations by explaining procedures and providing instructions on how to behave during the examination.
• Observing patients during examinations to ensure they follow instructions and are in good health.
• Recording patient information including medical history, diagnosis, treatment plan, and progress.
• Performing basic nursing tasks such as administering eye drops, giving eye exams, and cleaning equipment.
• Documentation of key Issues in Theatre.
• Educating patients, relatives and cleaners on health issues, such as cleanliness, diet and general hygiene.
• Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time by the relevant authority.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• Certificate in Nursing from a recognised Institution
• Certificate in Ophthalmic Theatre Nursing is a must
• Registration with Uganda Nurses’ and Midwives’ Council
• Minimum of 1 year’s work experience in a similar setting
• Excellent customer care skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
