The Electro Mechanic will be responsible for carrying out technical assessments of electromechanical equipment involved in water supply systems in refugee settlements and host communities to identify the requirements for O&M of Hybrid water pumping systems including but not limited to borehole submersible pumps, surface pumps, energy production through solar photovoltaic and inverter system, generators, electrical control, and protection systems, electrical changeover boxes for scouting of new systems or rehabilitation in conjunction with other members of the water supply team.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Carry out technical assessments of electromechanical equipment involved in water supply systems in Palorinya settlement.
• Identify requirements for O&M of Hybrid water supply system electrical components including but not limited to submersible pumps, energy production through solar photovoltaic and inverter systems, generators, electrical control and protection systems, electrical changeover boxes for scouting of new systems or rehabilitation in conjunction with other members of the water supply team.
• Produce and implement the consolidated preventive maintenance schedule highlighting activities to be carried out daily. weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis to prevent major breakdowns and minimize the running costs as well as timekeeping records of activities performed.
• Together with the water technicians, monitor and perform preventative maintenance and repair works on water facilities managed by LWF.
• Keep an updated detailed record of all service and repair of the motorized water supply systems within his/her jurisdiction.
• Troubleshoot submersible pumps, solar photovoltaic and inverter systems, generators, alternators, electrical control and protection systems, and electrical change-over boxes breakdowns for timely identification of the damaged parts.
• Support the WASH Team in monitoring construction defects on water points and assist in supervising repairs of the defects by contractors.
• Support the Logistics Section through the provision of the required technical specifications for the procurement of O&M materials, spare parts, equipment, and tools of good duality to perform the O&M work adequately.
• Ensure health & safety is adhered to at pump stations at all times and ensure electricity and mechanical induced accidents and mishaps are prevented
• Supervise WASH infrastructures construction works (Service providers) during repairs of facilities to ensure adherence to specifications and contract terms
• Make necessary requisitions (spare parts, fuel) including delivery to the field for the proper running of the water supply systems
• Directly participate in the repair of motorized water supply systems
• Ensure that technical support including on the job technical training on electromechanics is provided to the line managed staff at the appropriate time
• Participate in the generation of project work plans and project Procurement plans
• Contribute to proposal development by providing relevant data and alternative technology options
• Directly supervise Pump Operators and Pump station guards to ensure proper records and operation of the water supply systems
• Carry out on job training, mentorship, and guidance to the Pump operators.
• Produce and submit weekly/monthly WASH data (Work done, fuel used).
• Undertake other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Supervisor.
Required qualifications, skills, and experience:
• A Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Water Engineering; Good knowledge and understanding of borehole hybrid pumping technology including solar systems, inverters, diesel engines, alternators, electric power production and regulation, submersible pumps and protection systems remote monitoring of borehole functionalities, and ability to undertake electromechanical troubleshooting and fault finding of the same.
• A last 3 years’ experience in WASH motorized Infrastructure i.e.; Hybrid water supply systems, solar, generators, and repair works of all the above with an International NGO; Demonstrate a flexible attitude; Proven knowledge and experience in water supply in an emergency; Experience in troubleshooting and repairs of motorized water supply systems; Very strong interpersonal, cross-cultural, and teamwork skills and the ability to work with different stakeholders; Well organized, self-motivated, and able to work in a team; Effective in written and verbal communication in English; Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid riding permit and; Ability to work in a multi-cultural team; Strong networking capability; Ability to build & develop capacity frameworks and work plans

• Good problem Solving, Decision Making, interpersonal, Strong communication, and negotiation skills; Fluency in English, both written and verbal; Information Technology (MS Office, Internet); Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines; Good team worker with good communication skills; Ability to exercise sound judgment, to remain flexible to a changing environment, and to make decisions independently.
