Qualifications And Experience
• A Master’s degree in Communications, Media Studies or Journalism or in a related field from a recognized institution of higher learning.
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications / Media Studies /Journalism or a related field from a recognized institution of Higher learning.
• Must have two (2) years of post-Masters work experience performing similar roles at a Supervisory level in a busy and recognized institution.
• Must demonstrate the following:
• Proficiency in written and spoken English
• Ability to design and implement communication strategies for complex institutions, including formulating content and material that reflects the University brand (distinctive ethos, programs services and products)
• Knowledge of different target audience and their particular needs for information, including different audiences inside and outside east Africa.
• Knowledge of modern communication methods including social networking and web strategy.
• Knowledge of Uganda, East Africa and global media networks
• Ability to quickly formulate responses to inquiries from a variety of sources about the university.
• Ability to quickly review materials submitted for approval and generate substantive feedback in appropriate style
• Professional maturity and emotional intelligence.
The aims of the communication team are:
• To market the University effectively to a wider range of audiences both within Uganda and beyond, including and potential and current students, influencers supporters’ partners staff and they media.
• To work with admissions, Quality Assurance and Planning departments to plan and commission market research to support that goal.
• To communicate positive and consistent messages to all target audiences
• To control and develop the University brand
• To manage all corporate design, including the corporate visual Identity.
• To ensure that the content and presentation of all forms of corporate communication, both traditional and new media, are consistently of high quality.
• To provide the strategic direction in the development and management of key university events.
• To work with colleagues across the University to deliver the best possible customer service (both internal and external).
• Promote a methodology that enables the university to qualitatively and quantitatively measure the communications and public relations strategy.
Main duties and responsibilities
• Inspire and develop the Communications and Public Relations team in planning and managing events, corporate communications & marketing and related activities.
• Work with the Academic Affairs division, Deans, Regional Colleges and other University departments to ensure coordination between the development and implementation of the University’s communications andmarketing strategy.
• Direct the management and development of the university brand ensuring that all communication and marketing activities reflect the Uganda Christian university brand, and its associated vision, purpose and values.
• Communicate a balanced and consistent image of the university both internally and externally.
• Promote the University and its associated activities effectively to a wide range of audiences both in Uganda, the region and beyond, working with Faculties and the University Management.
• Pro- actively manage media relations and media coverage
• Provide direction for promotional material (including online and visual materials and advertising) and internal and external communications in all media.
• Monitor the management of relationships with external agencies in relation to PR, design, printing etc. ensuring quality of service and value for money
• Support maintain and develop key relationships with individuals, external groups, partner organizations, influencers, local communities and other stakeholders.
• Provide strategic direction for planning and management of major corporate marketing events.
• Represent the University at external functions where appropriate.
• Work closely with senior management in responding to crisis that requires the support of the communications team.
• Fulfill any general duties required of a head of department, including leading and developing service to ensure continuous improvement, preparing local plans, preparing and managing delegated budgets and staff appraisals.
• Provide leadership to affirm and test the University’s brand personality in its different markets and ensuring that all communications reflect the brand.
