Driver / Logistics Assistant Caritas

Under the supervision of the Admin Manager based in Kampala (and of the Country Director in his/her absence), the Driver / Logistics Assistant is overall responsible for the driving and maintenance of the vehicles assigned. He will ensure safety of the vehicle while in transit or office.
The Driver / Logistics Assistant is in charge of transporting safely employees or freight of Caritas Switzerland (CACH) according to the directives of the project staff and the needs of the CACH offices in Uganda.
The Driver / Logistics Assistant is also responsible to carry out logistic and procurement assignments as requested.

Your duties
1. Transport safely CACH’s employees, visitors, and other passengers or freight if and when required according to the directives of the staffs
2. Carry out logistic and procurement assignments as requested
3. Running and management of the vehicle assigned, including service, maintenance, and fuel logs
4. Be in possession of all necessary individual documentation of each vehicle (licenses, service chat, and basic mechanics) and vehicle documentation of all movements and safety of the car keys.
5. Regularly check the validity of the documentation
6. Quickly report any accidents (immediately!) to the nearest police station for the purpose of insurance claims, and to the supervisor, project manager and country director
7. Respect the Ugandan traffic regulations and rules
8. Respect the manufacturer technical conditions of use for the vehicle
9. Perform the daily vehicle pre departure checklist mentioned in the logbook
10. Clean the inside and outside of the vehicles when necessary
11. Continuously report information on the logbook and fuel logbook. Check that the items mentioned in the logbook are in the vehicle when leaving. When a field departure is forecasted, the driver must inspect and prepare the vehicle the day before leaving and be ready for the scheduled departure time
12. Support office staff with other duties when required
13. Ensure the movement plan is adequately submitted
14. Coordinate activities with other CACH drivers as needed

Our requirements
1. Valid Ugandan driving license
2. Safe and cautious driving style
3. Knowledge of the Ugandan traffic regulations and rules
4. Solid knowledge of use of computer (word/excel/outlook) is a requirement
5. Minimum 5 years’ experience in the sector an asset
6. Fluency in English is a requirement
7. Knowledge of local languages an asset
8. Willingness to travel long distances and in the field
9. Open-minded, honest, and reliable personality
