Main purpose of the job
The Senior Internal Auditor will conduct the assigned audit assurance and consulting assignments in line with the professional standards and communicate any critical /significant findings to the Audit Manager for consideration thereby contributing to the Bank’s risk management, control and the achievement of organizational strategic objectives.
Duties and responsibilities
The Senior Internal Auditor’s specific responsibilities shall include but not limited in any way to the following:
a) Identify and evaluate the Bank’s risk areas and provide key input to the development of the Annual Audit Plan.
b) Actively participate in the planning (either individually or as part of a team) of auditable areas including risk assessment and drawing up of audit programs so as to identify areas of great concern and focus of audit resources.
c) Complete the allocated audit assignments on a timely basis bearing in mind value addition to the business whist meeting the expected internal audit quality assurance standards.
d) Ensuring that audit reports are finalized with all the responses from auditees and submitting the same to the Internal Audit Manager for review.
e) Coordinating the review of Bank of Uganda returns and ensuring that it is done and submitted within the specified timeframe and ensure that periodic reports for returns reviewed are prepared with proposed recommendations to management for improvement
f) Conducting internal control evaluation and risk assessment to identify loop holes and areas requiring management intervention to prevent frauds, embezzlements, misappropriation, misuse and wastage and ensuring that objectives of the organization are achieved economically, efficiently and effectively.
g) Ensure that any department issues that require urgent Administration and Procurement Department attention are timely forwarded and followed up for timely rectification.
h) Carry out fraud investigations as may be assigned from time to time and assist in the preparation of special reports when asked for by management &/ Board on various aspects of risk management, internal controls and governance.
i) Ensure that branch snap checks assigned to all auditors are timely done and report shared with the branches and the same consolidated into monthly and quarterly reports to management for information and action.
j) Schedule and facilitate exit meetings with auditees to communicate audit results and agree on management actions.
k) And any other assignments allocated from time to time
Key Competencies & qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Quantitative Economics, Statistics, and any other related business/ management course.
• Part 2 ACCA/ Part 3 CPA &/ CIA
• Membership to IIA is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Internal Auditing preferably in a Financial Institution or having previously worked in an External Audit firm.
• Broad knowledge of the techniques, tests, and sampling methods involved in conducting audits and the requirements set forth in the standards for the professional practice of internal auditing.
Proven ability to collect, analyze and evaluate information and the preparation of written concise reports of work performed plus recommendations.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
• Broad knowledge and understanding of bank products, risks and processes.
