Communications Officer Uganda Biodiversity Fund

The Uganda Biodiversity Fund (UBF) is an independent Trust Fund established as a mechanism to provide sustainable financing for the conservation of priority biodiversity and ecosystem services in Uganda. The mission of UBF is: “To mobilize financial resources for Biodiversity Conservation in Uganda”. UBF is therefore serving as a catalyst for mobilizing, managing, and channelling financial resources for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in Uganda for the benefit of current and future generations and the intrinsic value of nature. UBF has been implementing programmatic and management activities and undertaking financial transactions since 2017.

Job Title: Communications Officer
Reports to: Executive Director
Responsible for: Department: None
Executive Director’s Office

Job Role: Provide technical support to all communications needs of the organization, ensuring brand presence and visibility of UBTF’s work, impact and collaborations.

Key Result Areas
1. Media Relations: Effectively maintain UBF’s strong and interactive media relations.
2. Website and Social Media Platforms: Manage UBTF’s website and social media platform in line with the UBF’s Communications Policy.
3. Production of periodic publications: Support the production of quality and timely periodic newsletters (monthly, quarterly, annually etc)
4. Staff communication skills capacity building: Support the roll out of capacity building initiatives on communication skills trainings to UBF staff and partners.
5. Support UBF’s Campaigns Roll Out
6. Promoting the corporate brand: Ensure staff and partners adhere to UBT Brand essence and guidelines for visibility.

Person Specifications Qualifications:
1. A bachelor’s degree in either Information Science, Journalism/Mass Communications, Communications Science, Media Studies or Marketing from a recognized institution.
2. A relevant postgraduate qualification would be an added advantage.

Experience:
1. A minimum of three years in a similar work experience from a reputable organization.

1. Media or public relations experience
2. Materials development and Publishing skills
3. Excellent written and public speaking skills Photography and photo editing skills
4. Graphic design and layout skills
5. Marketing and communications skills
6. Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
7. Demonstrated interest in the visual arts and community education.
8. Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop.
9. Experience in managing websites.
10. Solid problem-solving skills
11. Ability to establish critical working relationships.
12. Ability and willingness to comply with UBTF safeguarding requirements.
