Job Summary:
Description of the purpose of the job
This role is responsible for the management of practices and processes to ensure the security, quality, integrity, safety and availability of all forms of data and data structures that make up the organisation’s information. The role is further concerned with the management of data and information in all its forms and the analysis of information structure (including logical analysis of taxonomies, data and metadata). The role shall also spearhead the development of innovative ways of managing the information assets of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Brief description of duties or the responsibilities for the job
Data Management
• Take responsibility for the accessibility, retrievability, security, quality, retention and ethical handling of specific subsets of data.
• Assess the integrity of data from multiple sources.
Provide advice on the transformation of data/information from one format or medium to another.
• Maintain and implement information handling procedures.
• Enable the availability, integrity and searchability of information through the application of formal data and metadata structures and protection measures.
• Manipulate specific data from information services, to satisfy defined information needs
Data Modelling and design
• Set standards for data modelling and design tools and techniques, advise on their application, and ensure compliance.
• Manage the investigation of corporate data requirements, and co-ordinate the application of data analysis, design and modelling techniques, based upon a detailed understanding of the corporate information requirements, in order to establish, modify or maintain data structures and their associated components (entity descriptions, relationship descriptions, attribute definitions).
Manage the iteration, review and maintenance of data requirements and data models
Data Visualisation
• Apply a variety of visualisation techniques and design the content and appearance of data visuals.
• Operationalise and automate activities for efficient and timely production of data visuals.
• Select appropriate visualisation approach from a range of applicable options.
• Contribute to exploration and experimentation in data visualisation.
Database Design
• Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of database and data warehouse concepts, design principles, architectures, software and facilities.
• Assess proposed changes to object/data structures, in order to evaluate alternative options.
• Implement physical database designs to support transactional data requirements for performance and availability.
• Implement data warehouse designs that support demands for business intelligence and data analytics
Analytics
• Evaluate the need for analytics, assesses the problems to be solved and what internal or external data sources to use or acquire.
• Specify and apply appropriate mathematical, statistical, predictive modelling or machine-learning techniques to analyse data, generate insights, create value and support decision-making.
• Manage reviews of the benefits and value of analytics techniques and tools and recommends improvements.
• Contribute to the development of analytics policy, standards and guidelines.

Education and Professional Requirements:
The minimum education level required to perform this job.
• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Information Technology, Computer Science or associated discipline from a recognized university.
Related Job Experience:
The Experience required to perform this job.
• At least 3 years’ experience in Data Management and Data Analytics.
• Certifications: Database management, Business Intelligence, Analytics, etc will be an added advantage.
