Development, control, management and coordination of all library and information services of the University. The University Librarian shall be responsible for the development, control, management and coordination of all library and information services of the University.
KEY FUNCTIONS
1. Shall be in charge of planning and implementing in liaison with relevant Departments of the University and the various projects and programs of the Library
2. Familiarize him/herself with the various programs offered by the University and liaise with the various School heads on issues regarding the development of the Library to ensure that relevant information materials are provided to the University Community
Shall organize and chair meetings of the Library Committees
Shall keep in constant touch with developments in the world of information to ensure that relevant and up to date information is provided to the University staff and students
5. The incumbent will ensure the creation and maintenance of Library databases to enable the University community have easy access to the University’s Information Resource
6. Shall work closely with other information providing Departments such as Information
7. Technology Department, to ensure that information to the users is provided in a coordinated manner
Shall be in charge of planning for Library Staff development in collaboration with the Director, Human Resources and keep Staff abreast with developments in their profession
9. Shall mentor and supervise Staff and hold regular staff meetings
10. Shall carry out any other related duties, as may be necessary to ensure the provision of efficient and effective Library and Information services in the University
PERSON SPECIFICATION
1. The ideal candidate must hold a Master of Library and Information Sciences
2. (LIS) or related discipline and a PhD in Library and Information Sciences
3. (LIS)
4. The candidate should possess at least twelve (12) years working experience,
5. three (3) of which must be at Senior Management Level from a Reputable Organization.
6. The applicant must have mentored LIS professionals by teaching or supervising their Research work and/ or setting up LIS units
7. Should have at least five (5) new recognized Publications and/ or conference papers
