Manager -Database Operations Dfcu Bank

dfcu Bank is a fast-growing Bank in Uganda offering a wide range of financial solutions to its chosen market segments. We are seeking to recruit for the role of Manager -Database Operations to support our expansion strategy.

REPORTING TO: Senior Manager- Infrastructure and Data Services

JOB PURPOSE: Reporting to the Senior Manager- Infrastructure and Data Services, the role holder will be responsible for leading the team that provides expert support to the Database technology areas to improve the Bank’s data management capability by ensuring all the internal data sources are regularly accounted for, proactively maintained, documented, secured, and backed up to ensure a high degree of availability and stability of services and achievement of Bank’s digital strategy.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Design, Plan and Maintain the database infrastructure for the Bank.
2. Develop procedures for database operations, maintenance, security, archiving and recovery.
3. Maintain database disaster recovery procedures to ensure continuous availability and quick recovery in line with the bank’s defined KPI’s.
4. Supervise installation, migration and upgrade of databases as well as routine database management and maintenance tasks in line with approved processes and procedures of the Bank.
5. Develop and Implement continuous improvement programs including setting of standards for bank’s database infrastructure and ensuring conformance to these standards.
6. Manage strategic relationships with key IT product and service providers in the Database infrastructure space.
7. Oversee the implementation and maintenance of up-to-date security and update protocols on the bank’s database infrastructure.
8. Provide oversight for the unit in mitigating, monitoring and managing database related risks.
9. Manage the Database Administration staff in an effective manner (hiring, motivation, retention, performance/rewards assessments, development/corrective actions etc).
10. Regular review of the status of end-of-cycle activities including backups ensuring compliance with schedules Critical server Uptime.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE and COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
1. A University Degree in Computer Science, information, Systems information Technology or Computer Engineering from a reputable institution.
2. Post Graduate qualification in Information Technology will be added advantage.
3. Professional certification in Technology Governance and/or Leadership e.g., ITIL, CGEIT, CISM, or other relevant.
4. 6+ years in Database Administration and Data Center Management.
5. Working knowledge of Relational Database system with emphasis on Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Database and SQL language.
6. Working knowledge of Operating Systems Microsoft, Solaris & Linux/ Unix.
7. Excellent experience in system scripting, such as PERL, PYTHON, Shell, etc.
8. Experience working with open-source RDBMS MySQL and NoSql Database systems such as MongoDB etc.
9. 6 years of demonstrable working experience in a busy IT environment.
10. Experience with multiple storage and backup subsystems.
11. Experience of SQL Server Replication/Load balancing/High availability.
12. Ability to quickly assess organizational needs relative to databases and data center problems.
13. Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and in verbal discussions with users.
14. Self-motivated team player with the ability to adapt and work co-operatively and effectively in different situations and teams to carry out assigned tasks maintain a positive attitude under stress conditions.
15. Team leadership experience.
