Reports to: Banking Operations Director

Job Purpose
• The Head of Credit will be responsible for the overall credit function of the Bank. Establishes internal controls and processes for credit assessments, restructuring, monitoring and recovery in line with Bank overall Strategy and Objectives. Drives initiatives that aim to satisfy both internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities
• Drive the identification of credit opportunities where businesses can handle more risks
Ensure compliance with the internal policy, credit approval terms and conditions regulatory ratio/policies
• Ensure that lending decisions conform to the laid down policies and procedures as well as regulatory and international standards.
• Ensure all counter party risks are properly evaluated and mitigated
• Establish policies and procedures for credit applications that deviate from standards
• Regularly review and escalate adverse exposure of credit portfolios to internal stakeholders for action based on review of credit portfolios
• Deliver market information and insight to key stakeholders such as Board, Management and Customers.
Develop and enhance the Credit Reporting & Monitoring framework which meets the requirements of various external & internal stakeholders. Ensure timely and accurate delivery of Credit reports
• Ensuring that the Bank Credit policies and practices always comply with the Regulator guidelines.
• Will be required to build, foster and maintain relationships with clients
• Develop, engage and provide leadership for the Credit team

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an accredited institution. A master’s degree in business, finance or management is an added advantage
• At least eight (8) years’ experience in a financial institution within the credit/related function. Of these at least five (5) of which must be at managerial level. Exposure to both Corporate & Retail lending will be added advantage
• Sound knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements of corporate governance, business and banking operations
• Ability to formulate and execute strategy
• Experience in lending terms
• Communication skills and empathic listening
• Exposure to Risk Management
• Ability to build and sustain customer relationships
• Approachable with interpersonal skills
