Job purpose

• Support and manage the College’s research initiatives and activities, design, solicit and manage the College’s grant programs.

Major duties & responsibilities
Research Management

Serve as a point of contact for research projects of the College and partnered external programs.
• Develop and foster research partnerships with external sponsors and partners.
• Develop the College’s research repository and support the College Librarian to ensure adequate research material in the library is available to our membership.
• Develop and implement the College’s research agenda and periodically report on its progress.
• Collaborate with researchers to develop high quality research grant proposals
Seek for research funding opportunities for the College or its academic staff.
• Support academic staff on building research skills, resources and best practices.
• Plan, coordinate and execute all assigned research projects of the College, including those on the certified and non-certified programmes
• Work with management in preparation of a research budget and monitor and control expenses within allotted budget.
Ensure research deliverables are met and that they meet industry, regional and international standards.
• Manage the College’s innovation incubation centre.

Grants Management
• Prepare grant applications and handle the details of grant or proposal preparation and administration.
• Coordinate all grant related activities and grant award approvals.
• Identify grant and funding opportunities and secure funding when required.
• Prepare reports to management, funders or any other regulatory bodies as required.
• Maintain required documentation of approved projects, performance measures, outcomes, relevant data and associated expenditures.
Review requests for payment and monitor compliance with grant terms and conditions.
• Manage budget responsibilities and audits for grants.
Collaboration with Stakeholders
• Collaborate with development partners, consultants, regulators and other stakeholders in the implementation of research & grants programmes.
• Contribute to the development of the corporate image of ITC as major source of knowledge creation in the insurance sector in Uganda.
Reporting
• Organize and prepare research & grants reports, internal and external to ensure a high-level of significant findings and trends, get value from them and report them back to ITC.
• Provide periodic reporting to the management as required.

Key performance indicators
• Timely reports submitted
• Number of research grants written and awarded
• Number of research publications in international journals
• Timely completion of projects supported by grants
• Number of innovative products created in the College.
• Excellent relationships with key stakeholders

Requirement
Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from a reputable university or institution
• A post graduate qualification in project management or Institutional research is a requirement.
• Trainings obtained in Research or Grant writing shall be of added advantage.

Minimum Experience:
• A minimum of 5 years of experience 2 of which should have been at senior level doing similar work in an Institution of Higher Education or other environment funded by grants and contracts.
• Experience with Institutional donors, preferably including government funders.
• Experience in writing proposal for research or coordinating research activities
• Experience in writing successful concept papers for grant seeking
• Any relevant project management related experience.

Competencies and knowledge:
• Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information as required
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• High attention to details and accuracy
• High proficiency in computer skills
• Demonstrated experience in creating budgets and proposal writing
• Knowledge of contracts management and grant administration
• Strong leadership skills
