Job Title: Associate Project Manager – Livelihoods Diversification
Duty Station: Amudat
Reporting to: Programme Manager, Karamoja
ZOA is looking for an Associate Project Manager for the Livelihood diversification project being implemented in Amudat.
The Livelihoods Diversification project (UGD2204) is funded by FOCO/ZBA and has been running from January 2022 to June 2024
The Associate Project Manager (APM), with support from the Programme Manager, is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing the livelihoods diversification project, aiming to scale up impact and sustainability of livelihoods interventions, improving existing livelihood practices and diversification into new areas of economic activity in Amudat district. The APM may also support extension of activities into other districts in the region
Responsibilities
General
1. Implements project activities in relation to livelihood activities to achieve optimal project outputs and outcomes in line with ZOA/donor procedures and targets;
2. Build networks and linkage to enhance value chains in both horticulture and apiary sectors;
3. To scale up impact and sustainability of livelihood intervention improving existing livelihood practices and diversification into new areas of economic activity
4. Working with partners to create strategic partnerships to forge local solutions and systems to promote a more locally led and “self-sustaining” training and extension support system to ensure post-project services.
5. Supports project field team members in supporting farmers to form and strengthen groups;
6. Strengthens the culture of innovativeness among the field staff.
Project-specific activities
1. Specific apiary and horticulture sector activities are outlined in the project proposal, which the APM will oversee and ensure delivery of. Detailed planning is expected to take place, with the project team and participants, during the implementation of the project
2. The project is also flexible, to adapt activities depending on which other actors are active in the district during the project, the APM will coordinate and advise on any changes to ZOA activities
Sustainability/hand over
1. Ensures proper exit/handovers are done based on the LTWG guideline before the project end.
Reporting
1. Provide timely and accurate verbal and written reports to PGM and or ZOA Kampala when required
2. Identify, document lessons learned and best practices;
3. Prepare and submit well written success stories;
4. Contribute to annual reports and implementation plans;
5. In coordination with MEAL colleagues, organize efficient and effective monitoring and data recording systems of activities in the project;
6. Ensure data are collected in timely manners and entered in to the data base for easy retrieval’.
Representation and coordination
1. Actively participate in the sector working groups;
2. Participate in district and sub-county livelihood coordination meetings;
3. Serve as livelihood focal point in the Karamoja programme.
Human Resource Management
1. Ensure the livelihood staff have weekly and monthly targets;
2. Conduct weekly or monthly meeting to achieve targets;
3. Conduct staff appraisal/evaluation as per ZOA’s policy;
4. Provide technical support through coaching and mentorship of staff for quality implementation of livelihood activities.
Procurement and finance
1. Initiate timely purchase requisition of project goods/services;
2. Ensure expenses are in line with approved budget;
3. Provide appropriate codes for expenses.
Requirements
Knowledge & Experience:
1. Degree in Agriculture, entomology, Agribusiness or other relevant field;
2. At least 3 years successful experience in a similar position implementing livelihoods related projects;
3. Working experience in hard to reach areas especially among pastoralist community;
4. Management and staff supervision experience;
5. Understanding of the Karamoja context, culture, and languages as an added value;
6. Excellent spoken and written command of English.
