About US:
The Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) was established under section 14 of the Insurance Statute 1996 now The Insurance Act, (Chap213) Laws of Uganda, 2000 (Insurance Act) which came into effect on 4th April 1996 and commenced operations in April 1997. The establishment of the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda was a consequence of Government’s adoption of the liberalization and privatization policies which ended its role of directly engaging in the provision of goods and services and taking on the role of supervisor or regulator.
Job Summary: The Legal Officer Complaints will assist in legal services provision in accordance with Authority’s policies and procedures and the law.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend to walk in and caller in by giving the necessary guidance.
- Assist in attending to Complaints including their registration, scheduling of meetings, making follow-ups, utilization of the automated complaints system, writing proceedings and decisions etc
- Assist in the generation of monthly, quarterly, annual and other complaints related reports.
- Assist and participate in community sensitisations and other outreach activities.
- Assist in assessing the legal implications of the Authority’s dealings with licensees and other
- operators who carry on business that falls within the purview of the Insurance Act and other pertinent laws and regulations.
- Assist in the interpretation of and enforcement of the Insurance Act and other pertinent laws and regulations, as the need may arise.
- Assist in the carrying out of legal research and provision of legal advice to the Authority.
- Assist in reviewing insurance proposals and policy forms.
- Carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

- Timely submission of reports and other legal documents
- Timely attendance to complaints.
- Timely attendance to internal and external customers
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelors of Laws degree (Honor’s) Diploma in Legal Practice
- Personal Presentation
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory provisions
- Analytical skills
- Communication skills
