SPOUTS was created in Uganda in 2014 with the simple idea that ceramic water filters could be made and sold locally, providing an amazingly effective product through a sustainable business model. SPOUTS is currently the largest ceramic water filter manufacturer in Africa. Since SPOUTS sold its first Purifaaya in 2015, it has distributed 130,000+ filters to East Africa providing over 650,000 end-users with long-term access to safe drinking water. SPOUTS is a rapidly-growing organization with over 500 employees across Uganda and Rwanda. The next step is to expand its operations throughout East, West and Southern Africa.
Job Summary: The Inventory Accountant is responsible for ensuring stock records and reconciliations are maintained and accounted for.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Stock Take and Stock Reconciliation
- Ensure all stock movements are recorded promptly and that weekly inventory movement reports are shared with the Accounting and Finance Manager
- Raising sales orders, delivery notes posting, invoicing, product return and credit note posting and verification
- Perform month-end stock taking and ensure operational gain/loss review meetings are held and signed minutes shared with the respective parties
- Monthly reporting on all stock variances, i.e. operating and product transfer variances
- Proper filling and retrieving documents as per request
- Together with the Operations Team, preparing weekly summary of stock items lost by transporters/drivers and ensuring invoicing is done
- Keep a record of all assets; ensure all fixed asset movements are recorded promptly and share monthly fixed asset movement reports with the Accounting and Finance Manager
- Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and its calculations, ensuring all Depreciation and Amortization are done accurately and in a timely manner
- Tagging of fixed assets to ensure that all company assets have a unique identifier tag
- Perform quarterly asset stocktaking and ensure any losses are reporting to the Accounting & Finance Manager and HR

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance
- Two years of work experience in a relevant field/position
- Mastery of GAAP – master the generally accepted accounting principles and apply them when performing duties
- Mastery of Excel – use Excel to perform calculations and functions related to inventory analysis
- Mastery of accounting software to track invoices for manufacturing and production processes
- Analytical skills to reduce costs and improve loss prevention efforts
- Attention to detail; persistence and strong attention to detail in required to find and address inventory variances
- Organizational skills – when conducting physical inventory counts, inventory accountants summon their organizational skills to get the job done as accurately as possible
