We implement six programmes in thematic areas of Health, Education, Ultra-Poor Graduation, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents, and Financial Inclusion.

 

Job Summary:  The Head of Finance will work closely with the Country Director and the Country Management Team in developing BRAC Uganda strategic plan. S/he acts as the primary liaison to the board of directors’ finance committee, working closely with the committee to strengthen BRAC Uganda financial position and other items as required. S/he will continually evaluate best industry practices in comparison to internal systems and needed resources, with an eye toward both future needs and budget realities.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Steer the development and implementation of high quality Annual Strategic Plan and AOP of the finance and accounts department relevant to the local context and the organisational priorities.
  • S/he is the primary liaison to the board of directors’ finance committee and works closely with it to strengthen BRAC Uganda’s financial position and other items as required.
  • Work closely with the Country Director and the Country Management Team in developing BRAC Uganda strategic plan especially the financial aspect.
  • Leadership and Stakeholder financial management (Banks, Suppliers, staff, statutory bodies, programs, projects).
  • Develop, set up and manage financial reporting systems, procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance with donor and stakeholder requirements and provide reports to guide decision making process.
  • Financial payments, business process facilitation and overseeing the quality implementation of the financed activities.
  • Develop, manage, monitor and oversee the budget lifecycle.
  • Manage audits both external and internal and ensure a good inventory management process.
  • Prepare and submit standard monthly, quarterly and annual reports and other supporting documents to the Country Director, Bl anchor, donors and relevant partners.
  • Continuously evaluate the best industry practices in comparison to internal systems and needed resources, with an eye toward both future needs and budget realities.
  • Has the overall responsibility for recruitment, retention, performance and staff development of the finance team.
  • Implementation of the BRAC vision, mission, values and policies including an effective safeguarding policy.

Safeguarding

  • Establish a safeguarding culture across all level of the programme by implementing the safeguarding policy. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Responsible to ensure team members are appropriately trained, supported and have access to resources regarding issues that are identified and actioned in accordance with the safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Master’s degree in Business Administration/ Finance / Commerce/ Accounting/ Statistics/ related field.
  • CPA/ ACCA will be preferred.
  • Seven years of experience in complex accounting and finance systems, including reporting, budgeting, audit at management position in a reputable organisation handling a large portfolio.
  • Experience in donor funded projects with understanding about rules and regulation of major donors.
  • A strong experience in working with national partners, local/government authorities.
  • Critical thinking, decision making and adaptability to pressure
  • Knowledge of contemporary accounting packages
  • Good financial management skills, system set up and development
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
  • Ability to interpret documents and understand procedures
  • Writing reports and correspondence.
  • Excellent cross cultural people management skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Interpersonal skills and customer care.
