Job title: Tissue culture supervisor
Report to/Supervisor: Post Doc Breeder.
Job Description:
• Responsible for allocating work to the tissue culture technicians.
• Responsible for routine inventory and purchasing of needed chemicals and equipment, planning of plant production quotas in function of needs of the researchers and students.
• Planning out plant multiplication, embryo rescue via tissue culture and overseeing the general tissue culture lab operations and proper electronic recording of all in vitro data.
• Submitting reports as requested.
• Training and supervision of tissue culture staff.
• Demonstrating and exhibiting tissue culture activities to stakeholders.
• Identify knowledge gaps and initiating research to address the bottlenecks.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Crop science and/or related study.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in Tissue culture.
• Demonstrated ability to write quality technical reports.
• Experience in banana research is an added advantage.
• Ability to verify Lab stocks of inventory both on shelf and cold chain
• Wide knowledge of working with Lab equipment
Required skills and competences:
• Experience in working with not-for-profit Organizations.
• Excellent communication and Interpersonal skills in English, both written and oral.
• Computer proficiency including MS Office (Word/ PowerPoint, excel).
• Ability to complete multiple tasks under pressure and work in a multi-cultural team environment
• Ability to work in multiethnicity environment.
