About US:
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is one of the 15 Institutes of the CGIAR global research partnerships with headquarters in Ibadan Nigeria. IITA is a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Trustees and has a permanent office in Uganda. IITA focused primarily on improving cassava and banana-based systems in the nineties. The research focus over the past 5-10 years has expanded to include research on: climate change, trade-off analysis for smallholder livelihoods, Innovation systems and impact pathways, and Institutional and policy dimensions from local to national level.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans experiments and ensures quality and accurate data is collected and uploaded into the databases.
- Interfaces with other disciplines to ensure that all breeding related data is uploaded onto the database following appropriate protocols.
- Supervises data collection staff.
- Serves as back up to Post-doc when on vacation or out of the country.
- Keep good custody and maintenance of data collection gadgets and apps (including chargers!)
- Identify, justify, and report any need for updating, upgrading, or replacing the data collection gadgets.
- Assist with initial statistical analysis and report writing.
- Any other official duty in relation to data management as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Breeding and/or Statistics.
- Five years of experience in experimental design and statistical analysis.
- Ability in research data analysis and interpretation to contribute to report writing Experience in resource mobilization focusing on writing proposals for funding.
- Knowledge and experience working on field and laboratory research. Demonstrated ability to write quality technical reports.
- Experience in banana research and/or computer programming is an added advantage.
- Experience in working with not-for-profit Organizations.
- Excellent communication and Interpersonal skills in English, both written and oral. Computer proficiency including MS Office (Word/ PowerPoint, excel).
- Ability to complete multiple tasks under pressure and work in a multi-cultural team environment
- Ability to work in multiethnicity environment.
