About US:
Uganda Heart Institute was legally established in 2001 as a Company limited by guarantee of its founding Bodies namely, Mulago Hospital, Ministry of Health, Makerere University and
Uganda Heart Foundation. In UHI therefore commenced operating as a semi-autonomous Unit under Mulago Hospital. The purpose of the registering UHI as a limited Company was to fasten the growth and development of the Institute, by enabling it to solicit for funds and manage its resources at source.
Job Summary: The Project Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring successful implementation of the construction activities by supervising the construction works, equipment, project staff, utilization of resources and information within the project budget provision while organizing stakeholder meetings to bring together all stakeholders involved within the specified project duration.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
In accordance with the project objectives, the Project Coordinator shall; –
- Coordinate project management activities, resources equipment and information
- Participate in project design meetings and propose improvements where necessary
- prepare budgets for project implementation activities and construction works
- Oversee project procurement management
- Liaise with the client to identify and define requirements, scope and objectives
- Responsible for achievement on the client’s construction project interests
- Design and control the project schedule
- Prepare presentations to update the client on the project progress and show case value for money
- Delegate tasks to the project team members and supervise their performance
- Track and communicate project risks and opportunities
- Look for ways of increasing the projects profitability and reduce expenses where possible
- Organize and attend stakeholder meetings
- Ensure implementation of project activities within the planned timelines
- Organize and manage project staff meetings
- Ensure proper use of the project finances and responsible for accountability
- Schedule the project work into achievable activities and set realistic timeframes
- Make sure that client objectives are achieved as planned xviii. Monitor project progress and handle any issues that may

- Act as a point of contact and communicate project status to stakeholders
- Monitor working hours, plans, equipment and expenditure to ensure efficiency
- Issue all the appropriate legal paperwork such as contracts and terms of agreement
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports
- Ensure adherence to standards during project implementation xxiv. Prepare contracts and negotiate changes to contracts with architects, engineers, consultants, client, suppliers and subordinates
- Evaluate potential problems and technical hitches and develop solutions
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Applicants must be Uganda Nationals with a Minimum of Maters degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University /Institution
- Must be a registered Engineer with the relevant professional body (Engineers registration board- for the case of Uganda) with a current valid practicing license/Certificate
- Must have Ten years of experience in civil and Building Engineering including project design and construction management. Experience in management of construction projects in the Health sector will be added advantage
- The applicants shall be computer literate
- Competence in use of standard architectural software e. g ARCHCAD or Auto CAD will be added advantage
- The candidate should have knowledge of procurement process in building works
- High level of Interpersonal and Management Skills, high integrity and proven ability to work with teams at all levels
- He/she must have proven ability to wok under pressure and meet tight deadlines with minimum supervision
- Proven work experience as a construction project coordinator or similar role
- Ability to prepare and interpret flowcharts, schedules and step by step action plans
- Solid organization skills, including multitasking and time management
- Familiarity with risk management and quality assurance control
- Strong skills in Microsoft project and Microsoft planner
