JOB DESCRIPTION
Overall purpose of the job.

To diagnose, treat and ensure proper management of patients.

Key Responsibilities
• Undertaking physical examination of patients, establishing correct diagnosis and initiating appropriate treatment as set by the National treatment guidelines for diseases and injuries both in the inpatient and outpatient sections.
• Responding to medical emergencies.
• Performing minor surgeries like surgical toilet and suture, incision and drainage etc.
• Referring complicated cases to the Medical Officer.
Liaising with other cadres in the health unit in delivering quality health care to patients.
• Ensuring MOH mandatory protocols.
• Enforcing all the environmental friendly and safety activities particularly safe disposal of medical waste, needles and sharp objects.
• Educating and sensitizing patients and the community on primary health care and maintaining general sanitation and basic hygienic environment.
• Maintaining all relevant patient’s information and registers and participating in the collection of health data.
• Preparing and submitting reports including electronic reports to the relevant authorities.
Ordering and accounting for drugs that are used in the satellite dispensaries using SAP.
• Taking and keeping inventories regularly for all the items in the satellite dispensaries.
• Implementing standardized SOP’s including PPE donning and doffing procedures, when handling Covid /Ebola patients.
• Conducting special clinics, health education sessions and outreach programs.
Attending Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training regularly and maintaining CME records.
• Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by the Medical
• Superintendent/Management from time to time.

Knowledge, qualifications & Experience
Education:

A Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health and a Certificate of Registration with the Allied Health Professional Council.

Experience, Skills and Competences:
A minimum of three (3) years working experience as a Clinical Officer in a reputable Hospital. Guiding and counseling skills, good communication and persuasive skills, record keeping skills and a patient focused approach.
