Job Title: Cost Accountant

Reporting line(s) and networks: Reports to the Accounting and Finance Manager
Works in collaboration with all managers to ensure delivery of business outcomes.
Special conditions: Some travels will be required between the SPOUTS head office, the factory at Nakawuka, other parts of Uganda and sometimes within East Africa in response to the demands of the business
About US:
SPOUTS of Water Ltd is a social venture that locally manufactures and distributes effective ceramic water filters to improve the access to clean drinking water sustainably in Uganda. In addition, we locally manufacture free hand-washing stations to improve access to hygiene. Our mission is to provide clean drinking water and hygiene services to all East Africans. We currently sell multiple water filter products under the brand name “Purifaaya”. The Purifaaya provides financial, social, and health benefits for its customers in addition to environmental benefits.
Job Summary: This role shall among others involve analysing cost expenditures and purchases within the business, and assisting in the preparation and filing of accurate tax returns that meet all legal standards, while ensuring zero tolerance to errors and omissions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Support in Planning, Studying, and Collecting data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, machine and labour costs.
- Analysing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports. comparing standard costs to actual production costs (periodical production & price variances).
- Review production overheads and guide in product mapping for optimal costing.
- Review landed cost of raw materials to offer guidance to the procurement team in awarding tenders and contracts.
- Weekly review of raw material price variances.
Support in Periodic / Month end close of the General Ledger
- Carry out periodical inventory revaluation exercise.
- Maintain and improve processes and controls associated operation costs and inventory valuation.
- Review all inventory transaction postings to the general ledger while ensure accuracy of the data.
- Perform ad-hoc audits at all inventory locations regularly, and as may be required.
- Review inventory ageing at all locations.
- Responsible for Weekly finished products costing.
- Updating the ERP with the latest unit cost for each inventory item and making adjustments to inventory units when need arises e.g., after stock takes or when variance is identified.
- Responsible for Fixed assets management – ensuring, on a monthly basis, that the fixed assets module is updating with correct values of fixed assets i.e. disposal, additions, depreciation, impairment charges.
- Management of cash and cash equivalents.
Support in Tax Management
- Coordinate, prepare and file accurate & timely monthly tax returns (VAT &WHT) Including Tax GL Reconciliations.
- Provide vendors with their WHT credit certificates as well as initiate Tax clearance Certificate requests as and when required.
- Ensure accurate and timely returns for provisional and final income tax returns to the URA.
- Liaise with the Operations team for customs clearance and any other reconciliation required by URA.
- Liaise with URA and other external auditors in matters relating to tax as well as provide the necessary tax information for both internal and external audit purposes upon request.
Accounting documentation and Records management.
- Ensure proper and complete documentation and filing for easy retrieval of all accounting related documents.
Demonstrate corporate responsibility

- Represent SPOUTS in public and official forums, functions and joint ventures as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in Commerce, Business Administration, Business Studies, Finance, Accounting or related field from a recognized Institution, and; At least Level II of a Professional Accountancy Course.
- General Working Experience of at Least Two (2) Years and should have served as a Cost Accountant or Management Accountant or equivalent in a reputable Organization preferably in the Manufacturing Industry.
- Language requirements: High level of competence in spoken and written English language skills.

- Experience with Odoo ERP preferred.
