BACKGROUND
TPO Uganda is looking for a talented individual with graphic design expertise to offer graphics design services (project briefs and create visual communications materials (brochures, flyers, fact sheets, and infographics) through a framework arrangement. On assignment basis, the designer will work with the TPO designated staff/team to create well-designed products that meet TPO and project branding and communication standards. The consultant will work closely with the Knowledge Development and Innovation (KDI) Unit to provide creative design and layout services of communications materials, for both offline and online use periodically was required by the organisation.
About TPO Uganda
TPO Uganda is a non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that has been delivering services to vulnerable communities in Uganda since 1994. TPO Uganda has been committed to empowering communities affected by armed conflict and other disasters to meet their protection needs, psychosocial, mental health needs and to improve their livelihoods. TPO Uganda has over the years grown into a respectable national NGO with a demonstrable track record in over 45 districts as at May 2022. TPO is currently operating in the regions of Acholi, Lango, Teso, Karamoja, sub-regions, Rwenzori, South West, West Nile and Central Region. The Organization works with both refugee hosting and non-refugee hosting districts in Uganda. TPO continues to expand its work beyond the borders of Uganda to other countries in the region including South Sudan, Somalia, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan and Liberia among other international forums.
TPO Uganda’s vision is “A society where communities enjoy mental health” and its mission is “To empower communities improve their mental health and socio-economic wellbeing”.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
TPO Uganda requires external providers for graphic design services to work closely with the Knowledge Development and Innovation Unit, to provide creative design and layout services of communications materials, for both offline and online use, including reports and publications, factsheets, brochures, infographics, graphics for social media outreach, event collaterals and more. The designer will produce products based on content and guidance provided by TPO Uganda’s KDI Unit, in full compliance with TPO’s branding and Visibility Manual.
The provider will, under the general guidance of and in close collaboration with the relevant technical/user officers and Communication and Documentation Manager at TPO Uganda be responsible for the development of visual concept, design and layout of creative, informative and innovative communications products for TPO programmes and initiatives as required. The provider will be expected to provide the following deliverables on request/demand:
- Develop visual ideas and concepts for TPO Uganda publications and social media engagement.
- Lay out and graphic design for all type of communications material such as print publications, infographics, factsheets, brochures, banners, flyers, posters, resource booklets, leaflets, calendars, bulletins, cards, signboards and presentations among others.
- Develop and edit designs for maps, photographs, figures, charts, PowerPoint presentations and other graphic elements.
- Design of reports and other communication materials for print and electronic distribution.
- Improve and edit artwork, photos, charts, and other graphic elements.
- Create animations for illustrative purposes such as animations, presentations, webinars and more advanced solutions (design of CD/DVD packaging, graphic digitalization).
- Create social media friendly graphics.
- Participate in website – designing, reviewing/restructuring and updating it from time to time.
- Prepare or assist in preparation of or verify technical specification for print and/or production of various promotional materials.
- Ensure full compliance of graphic and visual communication products with the relevant brand guide and graphic standards.
- Conduct other duties related to graphic design when needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Education and Experience
- Degree in Graphic Design or diploma/certificate of completion of training course on professional graphic design or related courses.
- Minimum of three years of relevant work experience in Graphic Design and Animation.
- Possession of creative flair, versatility, conceptual/visual ability, and originality.
- Demonstrable graphic design skills with a strong portfolio.
- Up to date with and highly skilled in industry software and excellent (In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Bridge, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and other graphic design software. etc.).
- Initiative and sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work in harmony with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds.
- Experience in producing designs for reputable organizations and non-profits will be a plus.
Competencies.
- A good understanding of quality design composition, conceptual layout through to final design presentation and typography.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English with knowledge of content reviews and editing (offset and digital) and color management.
- Should be skilled in photography and videography.
- Professionalism regarding time, cost, and deadlines.
- Excellent organizational, communication, service skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to establish autonomously workflow processes to deliver products
- A good command of video editing software is an added advantage.
- Ability to deal with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and good judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
- Ability to be flexible and respond to changes to graphics as part of the review and feedback process.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate and work with diverse people.
CONTRACT MODALITIES
Duration and scope
This shall be an annual framework contract and shall run for 12 months. However, the initial contract will run for 4 months probationary period from September to December 2022 with potential renewal for the next 12 months based on performance.
Reporting and coordination
The service provider will work under the general guidance of and in close collaboration with the Communication and Documentation Manager, IT officer and Deputy Country Director at TPO Uganda.
They will coordinate on a routine basis to define the scope of required deliverables and respective timeframes.
The service provider is free to accept, reject or suggest a modification of a requested task to guarantee that
there is no conflict of interest or professional ethic issues arising out of his association with TPO Uganda under this contract.
Invoicing and payments
For any assignment, TPO will prepare the scope of work and the consultant will provide a quotation for the same. Upon completion of the assignment, the consultant will submit an invoice and a short summary of tasks and deliverables completed to support the payment.
Intellectual Property
All information and designs related to each assignment as well as the outputs produced while under the agreement are a property of TPO Uganda.
