Summary: The U.S. Mission in Uganda is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Computer Management Assistant.

The work schedule for this position is:

  • Full Time, 40 hours per week

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (4 weeks) following receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Supervisory Position: No

Duties:  Incumbent is responsible for the daily administration of ~550 users, ~350 Workstations and provides Tier II IT support services to Mission Kampala. The incumbent reports directly to the Supervisory Systems Administrator and completes his/her duties while adhering to policy and in alignment with objectives and priorities established by post management. Administers and maintains networks to include installation, configuration, administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of software, hardware, and network infrastructure.  Completes daily / weekly routine maintenance to adhere to technical and security requirements by performing patch management, anti-virus deployments, configuration management, risk management and encryption services.

Qualifications and Evaluations

EDUCATION: Completion of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, software engineering or computer/information security is required.

Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certified in both the windows desktop and server operating systems is required.  Cisco Certified Network Associate CCNA is required.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of 4 years of technical experience, performing analysis and decision making in systems administration, computer operations and support is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must understand the rules, laws and the business environment in Uganda to be able to work with the service providers. Thorough knowledge of computer hardware and software, including Windows based operating systems and standard utility programs is required.  Advanced understanding of systems analysis and design, and current on technological solutions is required.  The incumbent must have thorough working knowledge of systems administration and management procedures as well as systems maintenance procedures is required. Must possess analytical skills, ability to advise management and how to promote and adhere to technology related policies and procedures.

Evaluations: (This may be tested)

LANGUAGE: Fluency Working Knowledge speaking/reading/writing English is required. This may be tested.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Problem solving and resourcefulness aptitude is required.  The incumbent should be able to diagnose IT related issues quickly and correctly. He/she is required to determine priorities based on the application’s interconnections with mission operations.  They must efficiently identify problems and determine feasible solutions that are effective, often through communication with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and users.

Ability to communicate effectively with other technicians, USG officials and representatives of the Ugandan government and private sector is required.  Able to concisely articulate the importance of technology decisions through the senior channels to get the required support.  Ability to describe complex problems accurately and follow instructions through issue resolution is required.  Ability to operate and troubleshoot Windows compatible PCs, disassemble computers, diagnose both hardware and software problems and recommend viable solutions is required.  Ability to manage Local Area Networks with varying degrees of complexity is required.  Well versed in various Microsoft programs. Excellent communication skills are necessary to relay technical information to non-technical customers in a way they will understand the problem and/or resolution is required. The position is also required to lift 25 lbs. of equipment. This may be tested.
